His aim was to provide education for the children and self-improvement for the adults of the village. Also contains information on the subsequent uses of the Institute building following the closure of the Improvement Society in 1971.

James Wilkinson - Keld in the 19th Century
A study of the great mid nineteenth century pastor with a passion for education whose energy and powers of persuasion rebuilt the chapel and manse, established the school and built the Institute.
